Located on a 285-acre wooded campus, The Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business is one of the academic units of Rice University in Houston, Texas and one of the world's leading business schools. Named in honor of Jesse Holman Jones, a prominent Houston business and civic leader, the school received its initial funding in 1974 through a major gift from the Houston Endowment Inc., a philanthropic foundation established by Jones and his wife, Mary Gibbs Jones. The Jones School is distinguished by its strong foundation in accounting, finance, marketing, organizational behavior and management with areas of excellence in energy, entrepreneurship and health care. Degree programs include the Rice Master of Business Administration (MBA), MBA for Executives, and MBA for Professionals. In addition, the school offers several joint degree programs, including the MD/MBA with Baylor College of Medicine, MBA/ME with Rice's George R. Brown School of Engineering, and MBA/MS with Rice's Wiess School of Natural Sciences. The Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship is Rice's flagship entrepreneurship initiative based on a strategic alliance among the schools of engineering, science, and business. Since its inception in late 1999, the Rice Alliance has assisted in the launch of over 1,500 start-ups which have raised more than $2.9 billion in funding. The Rice Alliance is host to the Rice Business Plan Competition, the world's largest and richest student startup competition with nearly $3 million in prizes. Rice University's Master of Business Administration was designed to help students be more effective in today's ever-changing business world. The curriculum was developed with three goals in mind: maintain the traditional academic rigor and preparation that is synonymous with the Rice MBA, create a delivery format that maximizes the student learning experience, and provide students with the flexibility to cutomize the curriculum to meet their needs. The full-time program is consistently ranked among the top tier of business schools by multiple publications including Businessweek, U.S. News & World Report, Financial Times and the Economist. The most recent 2013 edition put it among top 25 programs, tied with other elite private institutions such as Notre Dame and Vanderbilt.[1] The practical learning approach of the full-time MBA curriculum effectively transforms the way you learn by blending three essential elements to improve and amplify our students' strategy, leadership and creative credentials: 1. A comprehensive core of courses in finance, accounting, data analysis and marketing that builds a solid foundation of fundamental business principles in small approachable classes. 2. The Action Learning Project - placing our MBA candidates in real world projects as soon as they walk into class. Plus summer internships and numerous field-project-oriented electives offer you ample opportunities for practical experience. 3. Specialized concentrations in finance, marketing, accounting, health care, energy, management consulting, global business, entrepreneurship and real estate allow you to demonstrate functional expertise in a particular area of interest. - MBA for Executives
The curriculum allows experienced professionals to examine business concepts and issues from a strategic perspective. Financial Times recently ranked the program at #40 in the world and #11 in the United States, making the program the highest ranked EMBA program in the South.[2] Further, the EMBA program has been ranked #41 and #39 in the world for 2010 and 2009, respectively.[3]
Classes meet every other Friday and Saturday for two years, with breaks at Christmas and over the summer. Each semester is divided into 2 terms, with an Intensive Learning Workshop (ILW) occurring between each first and second term. First year classes provide students with a base in essential functional areas, including accounting, finance, leadership, strategy and marketing. The ILWs provide an experiential learning opportunity for students to further explore negotiation, communication, and other managerial skills in the context of these functional areas. In the second year, students may take electives in order to examine functional areas in greater detail. They must also complete one international course and several capstones. The International Business Briefing, which satisfies the international requirement, brings students to a foreign country to learn about cultural differences in the business world. Students must complete 57 credit-hours in order to graduate. The Rice MBA for Executives is accredited by AACSB International.

The Rice MBA for Professionals offers women and men to earn a Rice degree while continuing to work. The Rice MBA for Professionals students have the same learning experience, faculty, facilities, and career services as do the MBA and MBA for Executives students. MBA for Professionals program was ranked 6th in the nation by BusinessWeek in 2011 and ranked 21st in the U.S. News & World Report in 2011.
- Joint MBA/ME with the George R. Brown School of Engineering
The MBA/ME Program at Rice University offers a Master of Business Administration from the Jones School and a Master of Engineering from Rice's school of engineering. Graduates will learn the skills necessary to guide technology firms through rapid change and development.
- Joint MD/MBA with Baylor College of Medicine
The MBA/MD Program allows students to obtain a Master of Business Administration from the Jones School and a Doctorate of Medicine from Baylor College of Medicine. The program answers the growing demand for skilled managers in the health care industry.
